A taste of Tjuonajokk
The helicopter sets you down outside the main building in Tjuonajokk. Here you are welcomed by your hosts, friendly as always.

You are invited for a tour in the camp and then brought to inspect your own cosy cabin. It is completely equipped for self-catering. Of course, many prefer to gather in the main building, where the big open fireplace creates a cosy heat. There the fishing and the day's experiences are discussed. Later in the evening, most of the day's fish have grown - at least a bit!
  Enjoy the good n
ordic food, fresh-grilled grayling or raw spiced char, the roast meat of the reindeer or, today, the grouse. Add to this a sip of quality wine, a cognac to the coffee. And so to the cloudberries! After a sumptuous meal it is time to take the boat and aim downstream for Taivek or Kuhkak. It is no distance and soon you have waded out to the prime spots. Almost instantly your rod is bent into one of these wild fish. Here are incredible numbers of hefty grayling. You will never be without fish and perhaps your fly or spinner will be taken by a grayling of 1.5 kilogram's.
One morning when you wake up, the lake is calm and smooth like a mirror. The sun shines from a blue sky. Then you take the boat upstream, to Tjirtjam, the famed rapid between the two lower Kaitum lakes. The mountains of Kårsatjåkkas and Livamtjåkkas reach into the heavens and, on the other side of the river, the vertical cliffs of Tjuoltapakte where the white tailed eagle soars on the up-draughts. Or perhaps you will trek to the top of Tjuonatjokkah through mountain meadows decked with the flowers of globeflower, alpine snow thistle and alpine milk-vetch. In the valley of the small creek you stumble across angelica, the archangels own miraculous plant medicine. Here you can see what remains of the Saami dwellings made from peat blocks. High on the bare mountain, above the tree-line, the light breeze blows away the mosquitoes: below you the mountains are painted in blue and white along the horizon. Take a rest and let the sound of a small stream sing you to sleep while the reindeer try to escape the heat of the day on a small patch of snow nearby.

This is what life is all about!
